Easy?
Maintaining a website is, in theory, fairly easy. Till you realize you can never have enough security and you’ve been invaded by malware bots and are now the unwitting sender of a zillion spam emails. Then, maintaining a website doesn’t seem so easy anymore. And no matter how much money you throw at your Virtual Private Server hosting company, you eventually get to something they can’t, or don’t feel like, fixing.
Aero.ist
So, today, I’m saying farewell to my cute “Aero.ist” website. I just love my little url so much! I hate to say goodbye. But life will be easier. I’m rolling my content into this website, KateNova.uk. Now my headache’s can be Kate’s headache’s. Thank you Kate! FYI, Kate’s moving the whole thing from a hosting company called Fast Comet to a WordPress.com Business site. The migration was pretty easy. Load times might be slower now. And, in theory, WP.com will be more bulletproof than the cool, but eventually failing, VPS has been.
A girl, not from Istanbul, exactly
In case you’re unfamiliar with the “.ist” Top Level Domain, it’s a community-based TLD for the Turkish city of Istanbul. And, at least for a little while, a cute domain name hack for living an Aero way of life.
Anyway, I’m still here. Except for those large gaps of time when I feed my First Life addiction. And it’s nice to have my posts mixed in here with my “big sis” Kate’s stuff.
Techno Utopian, RIP
I’ve been a lingering Techno Utopian, even though the World Wide Web has arguably sucked for 25 years now. Tim Berners Lee invented the web in 1989 and that first decade was freedom and empowerment beyond imagining. But starting in 2001, four big nails were driven into its coffin:
- 2001 – Wikipedia
- 2004 – Facebook
- 2007 – iPhone
- 2010 – Instagram
Careless People
I’m reading former Facebook executive Sarah Wynn-Williams’ new book “Careless People.” We’ve known for at least a decade that Facebook is a monster company that cares about growth and profit and nothing else. We’ve known for at least a decade that Instagram kills people, especially young people, especially young girls. And yet, somehow, it’s still so frustrating and angering to read about this sociopathic corporation.
Less Web, More Cheer
OK, one less website to worry about.
Maybe I can spend more time cheerleading now.
Not to mention, we have Primfeed now!
Happy Springtime, or for my southern hemisphere friends, happy autumn!

Cheerleader, Roller Derby girl, Barista, and Host. I’ve seen so much love, beauty, and desire in SL. I’m touched by the tiny acts of kindness that surround us every day.
