It doesn’t get any better than logging in, learning that your last region is currently offline, and instead being mass herded to a nearby “Safe Hub.”
Shopping and dressing are often done alone or with just a friend or two. Even dancing at a packed club like Warehouse21 has a degree of structure to it. But being dropped into a Safe Hub erupting with so many bits of unformed pixel flesh is a dramatic experience.
So many thoughts about the human herd in both Second Life, and First. How precious every unknown, undifferentiated soul can be. And how expendable the mass of the herd can be. National leaders and next-door-neighbors can both have such a dramatic impact on the care, or disregard, with which we treat the other souls who, by some miracle, are alive and present in this same moment as we.
