Lesbian Loft

The Lesbian Loft is the rare SL place that survives and thrives year after year. It existed when I rezzed in 2008, and it’s still here today! And it’s always busy! More standing around, profile peeping, IMing, and whatever else, than dancing, but nonetheless a very busy club! All of this is probably due to the dedication, persistence, consistency, and tier paying of its founder Skygirl Klein.

Sorry male avatars, as the name might suggest, this is a female avatar only space. Imagine a place with a bunch of avatars standing around seeming to do nothing, and you’ve got it! A classic meat market.

Back in ‘09 the *cough* “gym equipment” and the standing around were all mixed together. So you might meet someone as you lounged in the jacuzzi, or hung out on a little space on top of a wall. Today the standing around and the toys are separated. There’s a skybox courtyard where everybody loiters, and a few levels below of various things to play with. I think there was more playing back in the day. Today I imagine people meet and either just interact standing there in IM, or head off to other locations.

There have always been some people with lovely souls at The Lesbian Loft. As for the avatars, it’s a wide range! You’ll find peeps wearing system avatars and others in glorious mesh. Lesbian Loft fashion is all over the map. For a “short” 175 cm avatar like me, it varies: sometimes you’ll feel like it’s land of the giants, and you’re ridiculously short, and other times there will be a number of avis  who are your height or even shorter.

The place can easily feel crass. But it also has a sublime side. It’s nostalgic and extraordinary to be at this tiny club that has been alive for so long. The Lesbian Loft has survived and thrived for longer than an awful lot of the “SL killer” worlds that have come and gone over the years!
