Gogo’s Crime Challenge
In her latest blog post, Gogo (gorgeous aurelia) noted that SL avatars on Facebook seem to love AI-modding their in-world pix, and SL avatars on Twitter seemed to hate AI processed images. She got inspired by an FB post about a mug shot for the crime of using AI and put out a challenge for us to follow.
I think on Primfeed it’s kind of split. Plenty of AI-not fans, but also many who love AI-enhancing their in-world images.
For myself, I find SL avatar images that are AI processed do look “prettier” and more “real” and more like First Life, but at the cost of looking less like Second Life. I’m fine looking less FL pretty if I can look more like I actually look in-world.
At least I did till I saw Gogo’s crazy AI mug shot above!

Thank you Gogo for a fun challenge. I’ve read and thought a lot about AI in the last couple years. But I’ve actually played with it very little. It was interesting to see how anemic Gemini seemed to be and how impressive ChatGPT was.
I couldn’t resist putting Gogo and I together for a police lineup!

I gave that result to Photoshop to increase the contrast, warm up the image, and upscale it. Photoshop “Generative Expand” declined to upcale the image because it didn’t like something about it. Adobe’s rules page isn’t overly specific, but I’m guessing there was either too much flesh, too many middle fingers, or perhaps the referencing of police work. The only thing I could think to try was to turn the image upside down, which to my surprise, was enough for Photoshop to say, “OK, fine, I can process this.”
Generative Expand is next level! You get higher rez and a sharper, clearer image all at once. As long as you can figure out how to color within the lines of Adobe’s rule book.
